Preparing for a CQC Inspection: What You Need to Know
By Premier & Maple Care
Understanding CQC Inspections
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Regular inspections assess whether services are safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led.
The Five Key Questions
Every CQC inspection is structured around five key questions:
1. Is the Service Safe?
- Are risks properly assessed and managed?
- Is staffing adequate and are staff properly vetted?
- Are safeguarding procedures in place?
2. Is the Service Effective?
- Are care outcomes good?
- Is there evidence of staff training and development?
- Are best practice guidelines followed?
3. Is the Service Caring?
- Are people treated with dignity and respect?
- Are individuals involved in decisions about their care?
- Is feedback sought and acted upon?
4. Is the Service Responsive?
- Are care plans personalised?
- Is the service flexible to changing needs?
- How are complaints handled?
5. Is the Service Well-Led?
- Is there strong governance and oversight?
- Is there a culture of continuous improvement?
- Are leaders visible and accountable?
Top Tips for Inspection Readiness
